- Crucified under Pontius Pilate: Jesus died by crucifixion during the Roman Empire, a well-documented historical period.
- Buried and risen: On the third day, Jesus rose from the dead, appearing to more than 500 witnesses (1 Corinthians 15:6).
Historical Evidence Beyond the Bible
Furthermore, the existence of Jesus Christ is confirmed by non-biblical historical sources. The Jewish historian Josephus and the Roman historian Tacitus both made reference to Jesus and the early Christian movement [18]. These are secular sources independent of the Bible that affirm Jesus was a real, historical figure.
Why the Resurrection Changes Everything
The resurrection of Jesus Christ sets Christianity apart from every other belief system in the world. If Jesus truly rose from the dead, then every word He spoke is true, every promise He made is trustworthy, and every person who calls on His name will be saved (Romans 10:13).
Some may claim that Jesus was merely a good teacher or a moral example. However, Jesus made claims that only God could make. He said, “He that hath seen Me hath seen the Father” (John 14:9, KJV). He forgave sins — something only God can do (Mark 2:5–7). He accepted worship from those around Him (Matthew 14:33).
Paul the Apostle addressed this directly, writing, “And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins” (1 Corinthians 15:17, KJV). The entire Christian faith stands or falls on the reality of the resurrection — and the evidence is overwhelming that it is true.
The Truth We Stand On
Jesus Christ is alive. He is not a myth from the past; He is the risen Savior who reigns today as Lord over all creation. Scripture declares, “Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ” (Acts 2:36, KJV).
Every person will one day stand before Him. But for those who trust in Him now, Jesus offers something no myth could ever provide — eternal life, complete forgiveness, and a personal relationship with the living God. As Jesus Himself promised, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on Me hath everlasting life” (John 6:47, KJV).
